Let’s be honest—sometimes insurance sucks. And if you’re reading this, chances are you’ve thought the same thing. As an insurance agency, we get it. We hear the frustrations every day. So why are we, an insurance agency, writing about why insurance sucks? Because we believe in transparency, and we know the best way to address the frustration is to acknowledge it head-on.
1. It’s Complicated
Insurance policies are filled with industry jargon and fine print that can feel overwhelming and confusing. Terms like “exclusion,” “endorsement,” and “aggregate limit” make it sound like you need a law degree just to understand your coverage. The complexity often leaves people unsure of what they’re actually paying for.
What We’re Doing About It: We strive to break things down in plain language, ensuring you understand your policy without needing a dictionary. We try to education you on your car and home insurance policies so you better understand what you are spending your money on.
2. It Feels Like You’re Paying for Nothing
Month after month, you pay your insurance premiums, and if you’re lucky, you don’t need to file a claim. That can feel like wasted money. Unlike tangible products or services, something you can touch and feel and benefit from insurance is something that you rarely see. There’s a stigma that insurance companies are greedy and won’t pay you what they owe if you do have a loss to your car or home.
What We’re Doing About It: We help clients see the long game. Insurance isn’t about getting your money back. It’s about protecting you from the loss that you can’t afford. It’s about protecting your financial interest. It’s about covering you for the damage that you cause someone else. Paying for the damage that you do to someone else is why you are required to carry car insurance. We work to find you the best coverage available at the best price available.
3. Claims Can Be Stressful
Filing a claim usually happens when you’re already stressed from an car accident, injured, or your home or property are damaged or destroyed. The process can feel slow, frustrating, and sometimes unfair if things don’t go your way.
What We’re Doing About It: Our team advocates for you. We don’t control your insurance claim, but we can help advise you and guide you through the process. We know the claims process can be tough, and we work directly with carriers to push for fair and timely resolutions.
4. Rate Increases Are Inevitable
Even if you’ve never filed a claim, your premiums can still and have been going up and up in recent years. We know this is aggravating and it seems unfair. Market conditions, inflation, and natural disasters in other states can drive up your rates, and that’s incredibly frustrating.
What We’re Doing About It: We regularly review policies to ensure you’re getting the best value. We will offer to review your insurance policies every year. Many car and home insurance policies are changing every year. During this inflationary period we are in, insurance companies have been losing money. A lot of money. I know that’s hard to believe and you may not have been the cause of these losses. Unfortunately, insurance is pooled together with other people to help pay for those that have losses. During this review of your insurance policies, we will review you policies and shop your insurance policies with our other insurance companies to continuously find the best option available.
5. Coverage Gaps Can Surprise You
You think you’re covered for everything, only to find out after an incident that certain damages or scenarios aren’t included in your policy. Not everything is covered with your insurance contract. An insurance policy is a contract. The agreement says will will cover repair or replacement of your vehicle if you are involved in an accident, for example. But not everything that happens to your car is covered. For example, your home could be damaged by a flood. A flood is not covered by your home insurance. That is covered on a separate policy.
What We’re Doing About It: We focus on education and preventative conversations. Our goal is to explain potential gaps before they become costly surprises.
So Why Stick With Insurance?
As much as insurance can suck, the alternative is worse. Facing a lawsuit, rebuilding after a fire, or replacing stolen property out of pocket can devastate your finances. Insurance exists to protect you from those life-altering risks. Again, insurance is to cover you from the loss that you can’t afford. Could you afford to pay for someone’s injuries as a result of a car accident? Could you pay the $80,000 medical bill? Most cannot. This is what insurance is for.
At Ameriguard Insurance Agency, we understand the frustrations, and we’re here to make insurance suck less. We may not be able to change your mind about Insurance. But we can be transparent about it and help guide you through the entire process.
